The Financial District is where living is all about convenience. Those who live in the financial district generally work there too. Located in the downtown core, it was originally planned as ‘New Town’ in 1796 as an extension of the Town of York. The Financial District is the main financial district in Toronto, and the financial heart of Canada.

The Financial District is bounded roughly by Queen Street West to the north, Yonge Street to the east, Front Street to the south and University Avenue West. It is the densest area of Toronto, filled with proudly erect office towers. The towers are owned by banks, corporate headquarters, high-powered legal and accounting firms, insurance companies and stockbrokers. It was the ‘Five Big Banks’ that took over the area to create The Financial District: CIBC, RBC, BMO, Toronto Dominion and Scotiabank.

When it comes to living in The Financial District, it’s mainly private residents in famous hotels and tall condo towers. For the most part it is upscale business professionals and eager young professionals. Many of the residential buildings offer convenient services and amenities. There are some young families, however they tend to move to neighbourhoods that contain schools once their children reach school age.

The streets are lined with trendy restaurants, impressive works, public art and some green spaces. It’s a perfect place to relax for a break from glass and concrete.
